8 months

My sweet baby girl, Juliet Isabel, is eight months old today.  She is a little joyful ball of energy.  She loves attention, being active, being entertained, funny noises, "walking", being tickled, animals, and milk.  She does pretty well with strangers as long as she is not tired or hungry.   She still sleeps from about 7:30pm to 7:15am and takes about three one-hour naps each day.  Her funny faces and little personality keep us laughing.  Her toy preferences are anything but toys. Ha!  My favorite is how she squeals/shrieks with excitement when she sees one of her grandparents, her dad, or me.  She is a 20 lb ball of JOY!  We love her so much!

These were several of my attempts to get an 8-month "measurement" picture of her this evening just before bedtime, but she was not interested in being still; she wanted to "walk"....which shows her personality perfectly :)

tú y yo

Prodigy

 Just like her grand-mommy.

Como on over and she will give you a concert free of charge :)

Walking

Juliet still does not crawl (Why on earth would Juliet actually do what she is suppose to do when she is suppose to do it???), but she will pull herself up and walk if you hold her fingers.  She would walk all day long all over the place if we would appease her.  But, alas, our backs can only handle so many hours a day :)

Mother's Day

Some really yummy dark-chocolate, white-chocolate, chocolate-chip, and almond covered strawberries arrived for me with a note saying:

Thank you for being my extra special, excellent Mommy.  I love you!
-Juliet

It's her first year and she is already doing great with the gift selection!  ... and good thing she is still to young to tell how long those strawberries actually lasted before ALL of them were consumed  :)

Hippy-Baby

Every Asheville baby needs their very own, Asheville-original, hippy dress!

Thai-Baby with Pig-Tails

Juliet's favorite Aunt Melanie was a missionary in Thailand.  She brought Juliet her very own Thai outfit all the way from the other side of the world!

And for the occasion, Juliet had her very first pig-tails!

Little Girl

Dear Juliet,

I was just thinking the other night about the day I finally found out you if you were a boy or a girl.  I think it was one of happiest days of my life, or at least one of the best of 2011!  It was like my fifth ultrasound (they are rather inexpensive in Mexico!) and the ultrasound technician was telling me all about everything we were seeing on the screen, EXCEPT the gender.  I was SO nervous I could not listen to him.  My heart was beating so fast.  I just knew you were going to be a little boy, simply because I so badly wanted a little girl.

I always wanted a little boy for my firstborn.  I always liked having an older brother and I wanted that dynamic for my family as well, but our situation was different.  I knew if I only ever had one child I so badly wanted a little girl.  I spent some much time praying that you would be a girl, but I was so afraid that you would be a boy that I changed my prayers and begin praying instead that God would change my heart to be happy with a little boy.  (I am a total pessimist and I always try and prepare for the "let down"!)  There were so many cute little girl dresses in Mexico that I wanted to buy but I refused to buy them until I knew your gender because I was afraid I would "jinx" my chances.

When the ultrasound technician finally was going to tell me your gender, he told me to look up at the screen that it was very obvious.  He said, "Que piensas? Nino o nina?" (What do you think? Boy or girl?) and I immediately said, "Es un nino, verdad?" (It's a boy, isn't it?).  I was too nervous to really even look at the screen.  And then he told me you were a LITTLE GIRL!!!  That was a precious moment for me.  I was SO excited!  It was really the first time I had actually been excited about being pregnant.  I could just image all the fun bows we could put in your hair and all the cute skirts you would dance around the house in.

You truly are an answer to prayer.  One of my favorite prayers that God has ever answered was a prayer for a little girl.

Love,
Mom

Blessings upon blessings

I think about where I was this time last year (about to come home from Mexico) and I could not have even begun to image where I am now, a year later.  There were some rough months, but God has be so very faithful to me, to answer my prayers "far more abundantly that I could ever ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20), and to show me grace in so many areas of my life.  Last summer I was praying so much for the right job, and God was merciful in not giving me the "right" job then.  Had I had a job (plus a new born baby, plus two graduate classes) I would have been much more of a wreck than I already was.  Then He provided in His perfect timing, the perfect job for me in January, when I was a little more, um, stable.  I was able to work only two days a week, take two graduate classes, teach Spanish (which is what my degree is in), and still be a stay-at-home mom to Juliet.  Can it get much better than that??  Um, yes, it can!...

Appalachian State asked me to return again in the Fall for another semester.  They are giving me three classes to teach (instead of just one), the three classes are scheduled back to back on Tuesdays and Thursdays so that I can keep my same schedule and still stay home with Juliet, AND I will be taking my final graduate class this summer as an independent study with one of my professors (ALL on-line) so that I can graduate in August.  The last class that I need is not offered until the Fall semester, but they arranged this summer study for me so that I could 1.) graduate sooner and not be taking a class while teaching three classes in the Fall, and 2.) graduate with my Masters so that they can pay me as an Instructor, instead of a graduate student!

Having my incredible Fall job situation lined-up is a blessing in and of itself, but God also blessed me with awesome work to do over the summer!  I needed to work some, but I didn't really expect to get any work in my field.  My sweet friend Caroline put in my name at Earth Fare and they hired me to teach two Spanish classes to their employees two nights a week for eight weeks, and I will also be teaching one six-week Spanish course to some home schoolers in Asheville.

Even before leaving Mexico I was praying for a job in my field of study that also allowed me to still stay home mostly with Juliet, and finish school.  God answered my prayer in a way far better than I could have even asked or ever imagined!
